Early VV-VI motor noise

I have a early VV-VI with the forward flat winding crank, the motor has the wider teeth for the drive gear.

My motor is kind of noisey, I am wondering if this is normal for these early double spring motors? Does it need some type of adjustment, I have tried adjusting the governor. Is the noise due to worn out gears?

Brandon,
These motors are noisy. I have an early VV IV, VV VI, VV VIII, and they have some noise to them. That's the same with the early small case Victor I, Junior, and Victor O. These machines had the course gears and the angled governor. I use some STP on the worm gear and spindle gear, and makes the gear less noisy. In my opinion, I think these were poorly designed motors, but they do work for their purpose.

I was kind of thinking that, it being the course gears with angled governor. If I want to use the Victor machines, I think I am going to resort to my VV-IX with its quiet motor.

Thanks for the info on the VV-VI motor noise Harvey...I just purchased a 1915 F model and was hearing the same noise. It drove me nuts trying to figure out where it was coming from. But after cleaning up the motor and lubricating everything it did quiet down some.
