Longest funnel on a travelling arm gramophone

This is the longest funnel I have ever seen on a travelling arm gramophone. It is inscribed "Boris Martynoff mit seinem Grammophon", and dates from 1903. Source:

What a great photo and it shows that a curious tinkerer will find a way to expand the possibility of improvement, but
ach du lieber, das hut! It reminds me of the Einstein photo with the handkerchief hat.
Before reading George's caption about the compressed air possibility, I simply thought the hose was attached to a "T" connector for the second horn. I am not sure that the hose enters the "compressor box" as pictured. The same can be said for my assumption that it is for the other horn. I do love a mystery.
Would connecting two large horns actually weaken the
overall output of the single large horn? And would two focused directions (somewhat diminished) fill a space better anyway? The wider projection of sound could enable more ears to actually hear it better without it actually being any louder.
This just may be my own compressed air utterings.
