Just brought home a nice working Edison HOME Model B with a Model C reproducer and a Hawthorne & Sheble horn - 29" long and 22" wide at the bell. Also included was a crane. Very happy!

Nice setup!

That horn looks to be the same vintage and manufacture as the one I have for my B. Someone applied iris decals on the inside of mine a very long time ago, more than likely my wife's Grandfather in the 20's or early 30's.

Nice horn! The phonograph cabinet/box is also really cool. Your grandfather's? Cliff

Chuck,

It was my wife's Great Grandparents then her Grandparents, then skipped a generation and wound up with us almost 30 years ago. Her grandfather was into making simple furniture. It's very special to us.

I really like the way someone painted the inside of your horn, pretty cool!

Fran, the applied irises on the inside of your Hawthorne & Sheble horn are factory original.

Also, the blended paint inside Cliff's H&S horn is original.

These horns were originally offered with a variety of decorations at slightly different prices. :)

Apparently, the crane is by Hawthorne and Sheble, too - pat applied for in Dec, 1906 and granted in Sep, 1910. CDB

An article on the various Hawthorne & Sheble horn cranes appeared in the September 2010 issue of The Sound Box. It included this patent plus a few others, as well as original catalog illustrations and advertisements. The crane shown in earlier posts on this thread is a simplified version of the well-known H&S No.5 crane. Below is a photo showing early (left) and later(right) versions of the No.5.

While I don't own one, I have always loved the red translucent paint.

I have the rose variation of this horn. I am the second owner of the Machine (Standard Model D) and Horn, and was told that they had been together since they were new.
