I guess it was the bullet hole that made this so special?

I subscribe to a service that sends me an email with the top 40 completed eBay sales each week. I haven't kept a record of data to do a specific analysis, but my impression is that values are starting to creep back up again from the recession plunge. I have been surprised by prices several times in the past few months. As usual in such cases it's good news for sellers and not so good for buyers.

From my experience as a buyer & seller on eBay for 15 years:

Rule #1: Don't believe everything you see on eBay.

Rule #2: Don't believe anything you see on eBay.

I was following this auction. I couldn't believe the final price. I'll take some of my incomplete, project machines and use them for target practice. Who knows how much I can get, let alone the great story I can make up. Sarcasm intended.

Albeit that prices do seem to be recovering in general, you do have to wonder if something strange might have been going on in this particular case. On the other hand if you get some buyer that gets in one of those just-got-to-have-it moods, overpaying can and does happen.

I would have to agree that this price makes no sense at all?? You can buy a nice condition complete Vic V with oak spear tip horn for $3500 or less. I also have noticed that EBay selling prices have started to creep back to pre 2010 levels.

Just saw this Edison Standard sell for over $1000 on Ebay a few days ago.
Nice presentation but still makes you question things...

Taking the time to do a good presentation can often add $$$ to the sale price. How often do we see really bad photos and some people don't even take the time to wipe the dirt off. Then they wonder why their item didn't sell, or brought a low price.

I'm currently dismantling all my machines and preparing to shoot holes through them. My question is does it need to be .38 caliber?
