VV-90 Tone Arm ??

I noticed that the tone arm was binding if I try to take the play out of it. I took it apart and all the pieces seem to be there, they just need a good cleaning. The question is, the bearing retainer has a brass side and a steel side, which side faces up? Thanks Gary

IIRC, friction is less when you have two dissimilar metals in contact, so I'm guessing the brass side goes next to the ball bearings.

In a trombone slide, where you want to have no binding and very low friction, the inner slides are "nickel silver" (hard) and the outer slides are brass (soft).

Thanks, that helps. There are actually u shaped cutouts where the balls ride but i can take a look at where it rides on the tone arm and the tone arm mount to see what fits best. Someone has been into this at one point,I just want to make sure it was put together correctly.

Is there supposed to be a gasket between the tone arm mount and the cabinet?

You're welcome, Jerry. I could be wrong (please don't ever tell my wife I said that!).

I cleaned the old grease off and greased the bearings, It now glides smoothly and has no play. I made a gasket for the base out of some paper gasket material that I have.
