Question Victor 0 Elbow

I'm still in search of a Victor 0 elbow but have not been able to locate one yet. I would love to get this little machine together and working and will continue to hunt for the correct elbow but, was thinking in the mean time, I might be able to modify a repro Vic I elbow that would work. Maybe solder in a copper sleeve on the elbow? Any ideas? Can someone give me the measurements of a Vic I elbow? Thanks for any suggestions. Jan.

Here are a few photos of two Vic O's. The one on the left is the earlier of the two. The Vic O was built over quite a few years so it went through many changes like other Victor models. That makes it difficult to find replacement parts that are unique to a particular machine.
*
The earlier Vic O has a 1&1/16" opening in the back bracket. It has a 1&¾" opening in the slip in elbow at the point where it meets the horn. The small end of the horn has a 1&1/16" opening where it goes into the elbow. (These measurements may seem flip flopped but remember, the small end of the horn is tapered.)
*
The later Vic O has a 1&3/16" opening in the back bracket for a slide in elbow. The elbow would not cooperate and come off the horn but the dimensions are larger than the early Vic O.
*
The second photo shows an early Vic I elbow along with the elbow from the earlier Vic O. The Vic I elbow will fit on the earlier Vic O horn. If your back bracket is similar to the one on my earlier Vic O, my suggestion would be to buy a small reproduction Vic I elbow from Ron Sitko. Next, I'd have a brass sleeve made that would fit into the slide in portion of your back bracket. Nest, I would marry the reproduction elbow to the brass sleeve as cleanly as possible. This may require removal of the slip in portion of the elbow before you attach the brass sleeve. Finally, I would paint your elbow black and add a thin gold strip similar to the one in the photo.

I hope this helps. Jerry Blais

Jerry, Thanks for the pictures and measrurements. Mine is actually the later Vic 0. Do you think the Vic 1 repro elbow could be made to work? I swear this is the last time I'm going to buy a project machine. At least until the next time

The Vic I elbow could be made to fit the back bracket but is too small at the horn opening at least for the horn on my later O. If a small Vic I elbow fits on your horn it could be made to work. I really don't know how many variations of the O model were made. My examples indicate at least two variations but I suspect there are more. If you can find a Victor elbow like a Vic I or II that fits your horn, you can modify the elbow to fit into the back bracket. I wish I could be of more help. Jerry

Thanks Jerry. You've been a great help. I think I'll order a repro Vic I elbow from Ron and see if I can get it to work. I don't want to modify any original parts but can foul around with the repro part and see what happens. If it won't work, at least I haven't damaged anything. Thanks again. Jan.

Before you order a small Vic I elbow, what is the measurement of the opening at the small end of your horn? Jerry

It's 1 5/16".

I think your horn is too big for the opening in a small Vic I elbow. First you've got to find an elbow that fits your horn. Next you'll have to modify the back bracket end of the elbow so it slides into the bracket. Make sense? Jerry

Jerry, I reread your measurements and you are absolutely right. The horn I have is for the later Vic 0 and is too big. I know a Vic II and a Vic III elbow are too big at the horn end, at least the ones I have, which are both slip elbows. Are there different size Vic II elbowsfor different size horns? I know there were several Vic II models.
