Sinful Columbia AS conversion

My wife and I are on a brief vacation. Rummaging around in an antique shop in Old San Juan, PR, I came across this ex-Columbia AS masquerading as an apothecary cabinet.
The top holes for the horn elbow, marquis sign and side crank hole were clearly plugged and the front door converted into two drawers with handles.
When I tried to explain the original purpose of the cabinet to the shop owner, she thought I was quite nuts.
Made for an interesting day in an otherwise dull, dirty town.

Hello,
A shame that it is no longer a Columbia AS but it is still a pretty neat cabinet. It would be great for displaying needle tins and record dusters!!

Ouch!

However, it doesn't look like anything that was done recently. I'd be willing to bet this modification was probably made 80+ years ago when no one would have dropped a coin to hear a cylinder play. The ones I can't stand are the phono cabinets that are recently "re-purposed" as wine cabinets or some other such purpose.

Just curious, what were they asking for it?
