The 5600 series Blue Amberols were released in late 1928 and your #5653 was released in February 1929 as I recall. I have that cylinder as well but it is not in really nice condition unfortunately.

No, IMHO not in this case. A lot of 5000 series Dalharts can be had fairly cheaply ($10 or so), but one this late is another story. Somewhere around 5650, Edison started dubbing cylinders using an electrical process, while at the same time cutting production back to miniscule numbers. My guess would be that only somewhere around 200-250 copies of this cylinder were ever made, and of course fewer than that survive. I don't think $50-$100 is unreasonable on ebay, and someone who needed it to fill a hole in their collection might pay more than that.

I agree. Any electrically recorded cylinder is hard to find. I just bought this one, and its supposed to be mint. I have gotten about 5 high number 5600's from this guy and they have all been great. He said this one had

It's the second "Bum Song". The first is on BA 5605 sung by Eddie Kirk. That song and "Hallelujah, I'm a Bum" are commonly found coupled on disk. You can hear all of these on YouTube.

What some thing should be worth and what some thing is worth (thanks to eBay) is some thing else. I see it all the time "Oh 78's or DD or Cylinders are only worth a couple of bucks" only to check the prevailing value per Ebay is a lot more sadly for us that just want them to listen to them not put them in our safety deposit boxes. That is what I do any way play them isn't that what they were made for?

It makes no difference if I pay 5.00 for a cylinder or 300.00 for a late 5600, I still play them. Your not going to hurt them if you have a good stylus. I see a lot of collectors that pay big money for a machine, but have no records worth anything. I like to collect the cylinders as much as machines and know the electrically recorded cylinders from 26 and 27 will hold their value. I just bought a cylinder off fleabay (Yes, We Have No Bananas) by the Green Bros Novelty Band for 30.00 in mint condition. I think that was a steal?
