Brass Horn value ?

On yesterday's spelunking expedition, I found a big brass cylinder machine horn... hanging from the ceiling of the co-op.

It is about 40" long from end to end, and I'm guessing the bell is around 24" to 30" inches in diameter.

Along the top, it has a "Saw-tooth" support attachment, made from brass rod.

It has been polished, probably by hand, judging by the work. There are lots of little dings, but no major dents or creases, no apparent cracks. It looks fairly presentable as-is.

I could not take it down for inspection or to get a name.

Tag says "$160"... should I go back and grab it ?

:monkey: :coffee:

$160 seems to be in the range of what presentable large brass horns sell for on eBay. Maybe a bit high, but then you safe the shipping challenges. I'd probably grab it, if my wife was not around

That fit's the description of one I have. They do look impressive if you've got the room to set it up.

Valecnik, looks mighty similar - do you know who manufactured your example ?

Mine is unmarked Frank. Maybe someone else can enlighten us. It didn't come with the Triumph by the way but they certainly seem to be a potentially correct match imho.

If you can show a photo of the hanger brackets, I may be able to help with identification.

It helps a little! :)

The Standard Metal Manufacturing Company used diamond-shaped hangers like that on its horns. Unfortunately, Hawthorne & Sheble also used them briefly before adopting the more elaborate hanger unique to that brand. :?

At this point I can only say it's either a SMMCo. or an H&S horn. :)
