Pretty sure it's brass, but still that seems like a LOT of money. However, that said, I don't see very many brass ones sell, let alone gold plated ones. I have a nickel plated brass Victor #4 that I bought for less than $50.00 somewhere around 15 years ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if the overheated bidding was fueled by at least 1 or 2 Far Eastern collectors.
