I don't know the gauge but it just needs to be small enough to fit the holes. last time I used .020 copper wire if it helps you.

Years ago I sent an Edison model C reproducer
to John Nagy in Walcott, Iowa for a rebuild.

It needed a new link, which he made from brass
wire. Haven't measured its diameter in a long
time and don't have it here handy, but .020
sounds about right.

I have heard from others that as the wire diameter gets larger, so does the sound volume.

Up to about .025 I am guessing, and that's about where it ends because any larger and the wire will not fit through the holes and pivot easily.

Also, these links come in two types, an "S"
shape, and a "C" shape.

Model C reproducers use one kind, and Model H
reproducers use the other kind, and I always
forget which is which and have to look before
I take one apart.

Hi,
.022 works great. And Chuck, it is easy to remember that the C reproducer takes a C shaped loop. The H uses the S shape. C for C! See?

Thanks in advance

Blizz, Check out a hobby shop that specializes in model trains. They have that thin wire and other goodies. You can get miniature screws that are great for phonographs.

I have made reproducer links from scratch that were sized to just the right diameter by drawing slightly oversized solid copper wire through a piece of folded fine sandpaper repeatedly until the required diameter was achieved. The soft copper wire is also easy to cut to length and bend to shape. I roll the wire under a sharp box cutter razor edge to make a clean cut, rather than use wire cutters that distorts the cut.
