Makes me wonder if some of the crap-o-phone sound boxes could be re-purposed.

That looks to be a little better stripe than your typical crap-o-phone. The reproducer is even set at the correct angle.

A while ago, I got a box of parts from an antique store. It had a crap-o-phone reproducer in it. It was the typical one that says His Master's Voice. I was curious so I took it apart. I replaced he gaskets, straightened out the aluminum diaphragm, and needle bar, and reassembled it. To my surprise, it sounded quite good. Not as good as the other brands, but pretty respectable. It's in my reproducer collection.

doesn't sound bad... but I would never put crapophone reproducers on any of my machine.
as the adage says, "you can't polish a turd" and crap-ophone is just a synonym.

Hard to tell from the angle, but it looks like that might be one of the earlier crap-o-phones from India made in the 1960s or so. So I guess it could technically be "restored".

Hard to tell what it is, but I am wondering if it could be a good reproducer that was salvaged from a genuine period machine.

I don't know if it's from a period gramophone, but possibly an earlier example of the crap-o-phone sound box. The seller thinks it was made about 30 years ago. I can't really get a good look at the sound box from the photos he posted in his ad --

I see he wants 180 pounds ( $300 USD) for it. For that, I'd invest the money in a pristine deluxe HMV 102 or 101, or a nice Decca Trench model, or.....
