Questions about victor IV

Hi,

I am thinking about buying a Victor IV in mahogony with a black horn. It has, as I would imagine most Victor IV's have, a double spring motor and a 10 inch turntable. Will I be able to also play 12 inch records even if the turntable only is 10 inch? For how long will I be able to play a side of a 10 inch record and a 12 inch record (if it works)? I am also going to change to soundbox so I can play electrical recordings better and I was wondering if someone has any recommendations? Or is soundbox nr. 4, the way to go?

You should have no problem playing 12" records.

That record cabinet with it is gorgeous. Does it come with it?

If you change out the reproducer, I hope you will keep the original with it.

The cabinet is offered with the gramophone. However I have turned it down bacause of too high shipping cost.

I will keep the old reproducer, but do you know any good I should focus on buying? Maybe some third party reproducer or just soundbox nr.4?

the Exhibition reproducer sounds really good if it is properly rebuilt... try it before thinking about replacing stuff.

My IV plays 12" records with no problem, though I think the sound with my wooden horn (from Eduardo) sounds better. I've got an Exhibition on it, but I also have a Number 2 and a Number 4, and frankly, I like the Exhibition best. Electrics get played on my Credenza, however.

Restore your Exhibition reproducer, and look for a Meltrope III or a Decca sound box for the electrics. An English Columbia No. 19 sound box (or it's HMV equivilent, the No. 23) would also do nicely.
