Just recorded a 4 disc soundtrack for the Tiffany-Stahl production of NEW ORLEANS from 1929. You can view the records and hear the recordings here:

The discs are 16" diameter and play from the inside out. The movie is 68 minutes long and these discs contain the complete soundtrack.
Enjoy!

Since it says on the discs that the sound is recorded by "RCA Photophone System" therefore the sound was originally recorded optically on film (as became universal in just a few years), and the discs were cut from the optical sound track and provided to theaters who could not show optical sound prints. The print probably had an optical track also.

I wonder if Ron Hutchinson of The Vitaphone Project knows about this movie?Perhaps the film itself(without the soundtrack discs)will be found. It'd be a great restoration project. edisonplayer

Tiffany Productions were originally recorded sound-on-film. The Victor recording ledgers for these sides indicate that they were "recorded from film". As Phototone suggested, the prints distributed with these discs would not have been mute, but would have also had an optical sound track. Mr. Hutchinson might well be interest in thes discs, though, for any surviving prints of this feature may have poorly dubbed sound, in which case a good transfer from the Vitaphone discs could be useful in the restoration of this picture, if indeed a print has survived.

These discs have been on Ebay for quite a while- Ron Hutchinson has stated that he has no interest in them. Very neat for you to have though/

This particular soundtrack set was on eBay for about 30 hours then came down, posted Monday AM, closed Tuesday PM with no bids. Haven't seen another like it, though I might have missed it..??
I sent a message to the folks at the Vitaphone Project and received a reply from 'Ron' thanking me for sharing and some history of the Tiffany studio and current information available for the movie - not much, really. He thought the dialog part late in the movie might have been added as an afterthought so the movie could be advertised as a talkie.
I also sent a message to the EDVR folks and received a form letter 'Thank You' in return, no other interest apparent.
