Picked up an Edison Amberola V today

Antique shopping with the better half today and came across this little gem. I'm not a huge player in this game, but I think I did alright. Everything except the grill looks right. This grill appears to be from a "30". I could be wrong though. Just a few missing screws here and there. Bought it for $225.00. Did I do alright on the price? I honestly don't know what they go for. Sounds great but I assume a reproducer rebuild would be in order. Haven't rebuilt a Diamond B though. Easy or difficult?

Either way, I'm liking it... Please let me know how you (the experts) feel.

Hi Scott,
I think you got a great buy! Heck the Diamond B reproducer is worth what you paid for the whole machine!!

Yep - - you stole it! Very good buy.

The grille isn't right (it's not from a "30"; probably homemade), but Gramp's Treasures can probably supply you with an excellent reproduction.

Best of all, the paint on the castings - which is notorious for flaking - looks very good on yours. Don't subject it to rapid changes in temperature and it should last another century.

Congratulations! :)

You did well. Paint is very much above average. Top grill is correct, front grill is not. I like the low serial number too!

I would be careful with the reproducer. The record looks like it has significant wear from a bad stylus. Check it under a high powered loupe to make sure there are no chips in the diamond.

The button feet appear to also be missing... ;).

Thanks a bunch for the feedback. I feel very good about it! Sometimes we get a good deal even though we would have made the purchase anyhow. :P The record had a bunch of paint and dirt on it, but will get the stylus checked soonest. Also, going to get with "Gramp's" concerning the grill and button feet.

Thanks again.. Time to get it cleaned up and start enjoying it.

Yes, You got a great deal.. worth almost double of what you paid..easily. The wood finish needs a good clean-up..It looks like the wood is starting to dry out..It needs a good cleaning and cream bath...lol..!

:o)

The V is my favorite Amberola, you did well. I play my V almost daily. The auto-stop is a great feature also, yours seems to be missing the thumb screw to lock it into place once set, but that shouldn't be too hard to locate. Congrats!
