I'm hoping someone can shed some light on Edison long play phonographs. I'm of the understanding a conversion kit was available, and the model c1 to c4 radio/ phonograph combinations did so. Is this true? Also were there any models specifically made to play long play records.

Yes, there was a conversion kit available after February 1927 to convert most Edison Disc Phonographs to play both types of records (this kit could include an extra mainspring for the single-spring models). The C1-C4 Radio-Phonographs were not equipped from the factory for Long Play reproduction. Your informant may be confusing them with the 1926 line of Long Playing Consoles which were the 1C, 2C, 3C, 4C, and Consolette.

I would recommend George Frow's book, The Edison Disc Phonographs and the Diamond Discs for information on the entire line. It is available for nominal cost and is a valuable resource.
