A few questions on the Vic. No.4 reproducer

I recently purchased a VV 2-60 portable is relatively good condition, except for the pot metal
Vic. No.4 reproducer, it was not well cared for. My question is....is it worth fixing and rebuilding
it. It has a few cracks in the gold front body (hairline) but the flange housing has a piece missing
which I was thinking of rebuilding with JB Weld. My other question is how hard is it to rebuild with
new gaskets, mica. I'm concerned with getting it apart and not breaking it while doing so. Or should
I just use my spare No. 2 on it which does work and sounds fine. Thanks guys for any thoughts.

How well does it work in its present condition? If it sounds good, I would leave it alone because attempting to disassemble one is always a crapshoot. You can easily be left with a pile of scrap. I have had a few potmetal No.4s which sounded good as they were so I left them alone. The only one I have rebuilt is my all brass No. 4. It sounds better than it did before it was restored, but not so much that it would be worth the risk to a potmetal one. BTW: the all brass version is known as a"No. 4". The potmetal one is a "4A".
