Has anyone tried the reproduction Edison cygnet horns offered by Victrola Repair Service, and if so, what is your assessment of them? You can PM your answer.

Hello Clay,
I see that these reproduction cygnet horns now cost $580.00 For that kind of money you should be able to find a nice condition original. I have a repro cygnet horn that came with one of my machines. Not sure who the manufacturer was but the quality is good except I think the panels of the horn are slightly thinner than an original.

I just looked on EBay and there are two original #10 cygnet horns for sale. One with a " Buy it Now" of $500.00 and one up for auction with a $499.00 starting price. It is my opinion that these prices are high. An original cygnet horn should only be worth around $400.00 You might try a want ad in the " Yankee Trader" section.

I saw the 10 panel on eBay. The Triumph E, that I need one for, should have an 11 panel though.

Hi Clay,
Yes your Triumph E would be correct with the #11 Cygnet horn. The #11 Cygnet horns are much harder to find. I have managed to acquire one in nice condition to complete one of my Triumphs. I traded an Edison C-250 in Fumed oak plus cash for it. I think it ended up costing me $800.00 but I just had to have it.

There is a #11 bell on eBay, but it is in such poor condition that it would have to be sand blasted and repainted, so I'm not sure it would be any better than a repro once you put all that work into it.

Well, crossing Victrola Repair Service off my list for the cygnet. Here is a question I sent to them and the reply just received.

Hello Clay,
We have to update the horns page. The guy is no longer painting them but i might be able to get one unpainted. the prices went way up but i can find out if you would like me to.
Thanks, Ray

Hi,

Do your repro Edison 10 and 11 panel cygnet horns include the swan’s neck elbow for the listed prices.

Hi Clay,
I just checked with Wyatt's Musical America and the repro #11 Cygnet bell cost $210.00 and the Elbow cost $195.00 ( both unpainted). If you are going to go the repro route why not buy the horn from Wyatt's and then send it to Gregg Cline to have it oak wood grained. It would make your Triumph look fantastic!

An interesting idea Pete. I will check with Greg on what that might cost. It could be a stunner if not too far outside my budget.

When I bought a repro #11 Cygnet bell from Tim Fabrizio that was unpainted I had a local Ford dealership body shop paint it for me.I asked them,"How many phonograph horns have you painted?"They charged only $50 for the job.edisonplayer
