That would be nice to see if it is, in fact, an original "uncrated" machine. I just wonder what condition the moving parts would be in after all of these years.

Would love to be the one to open it and see how what's inside survived.

It might contain Uncle Walter who mysteriously vanished so many years ago.

Maybe five years or so ago, a dealer at Union had a few "uncrated" machines and had removed a little from each so you could see the machines inside. From what I remember seeing, they didn't fare very well from living crated all those years....one was a VV-4-40 and if I'm remembering correctly it had loose veneer everywhere you could see. The seller wanted a pretty high price for what it was.
Around the same time, give or take a bit, there was something posted on maybe phono-l by someone who had found a few DD machines still crated from an old music store and the situation was the same. Perhaps this is one of those machines?

I remember the two crated Edison's Donnely had out back for the Union show. I don't remember the asking price but he had just enough opened up so you could see the finish and packing. As Sean said they did not fair well, even being crated and stored for close to a 100 years. Other than the novelty or historical aspect of them, I would not pick one for my collection.

Larry,
That's right! The other two were DD machines! I remember now. They were out back, I swear there was also a REALLY beat Columbia Grafonola still crated too. The prices for the DD machines were in the $5-600 range, I think and both were lower end machines, I *think* one may have even been an S-19! Anyone else here remember? I didn't really give any of them a second look, but they were neat to see.
Sean
*EDIT*....now that I think about my Union trips, this may have been about 10 years ago!

I remember two "Uncrated" machines quite a few years back- at least one was a Columbia electrola. They were still in the cases but it turned out that many years before someone (a repairman or dealer) had taken a lot of parts out of both of them and then screwed the covers back on the cases.

The Edison machines were there in 2010 inside the main building. There may have been others in previous years.

There were others in previous years, the ones I remember were out in back. I wasn't there in 2010, but I see an S-19 here, if not two. Odd, since I'm 98% sure one of the ones in back was also an S-19, but it was in sad shape, even crated.
