It looks like the weight from a Diamond A reproducer has been attached to a home-made contraption. Perhaps it is to allow for an external horn? Either way, the weight is attached backwards so it would not work for cylinders. The hook, I suspect, prevents it from being used for Diamond Discs.

First, too bad how this has been mangled. Second, too bad there's not a picture from the top showing how the hardware's been attached. Maybe the assembly started out turned 180 degrees. The front (normally rear) lift hook is correct for the Diamond A reproducer.

If it could be rotated and if the sound comes out of the top, then it would at least be an interesting experiment.

Definitely bizarre: perhaps some 'enthusiast' had a DD machine without a reproducer, and tried to make a Diamond A fit it?

Or maybe they had an outside horn machine lacking a Cygnet horn, and modified it to take a straight horn?

Anyway, a pretty horrifying piece of butchery….

Maybe it was mounted in front of a sliding Amberola mandrel, in which case it would work just fine. One could make a free-standing thingamajig & not mar the Amberola at all. The body of this reproducer interests me: is it from a factory machine, or did somebody make it? The plumbing fittings are less interesting.
