I wouldn't go two grand on it, that's for certain. In that shape, I don't know what a good value would be...$800?

Just to be clear, I wasn't knocking the machine's condition; only the claim that the seller "never wound it up" despite it being the "prize of my collection."

That is WAY overpriced - thanks to the internet these are a bit less rare than they used to seem.

That's very strange- isn't that the first thing you do when you get a wind up phonograph? He owned it for over a year and never tried winding it up- even just to see what happens??
Honestly, it would probably take 30 seconds to wind it up and test it- even if it was just done for the eBay description.

Wayne (gramophone78), all I can say is that you have sharp eyes! For whatever reason, after a mere 18 months the bloom appears to be off the rose for Mr. Spicoli and his VV-XVIII.
