Success!

I finally got my machine working... a Victor VV-VIIIA. Thanks to everybody who helped me!

I got it a couple of months ago and worked on it here and there when I could. I took it completely apart and cleaned it up, replaced a main spring, rebuilt the reproducer, and reglued a lot of the peeling laminate. I also had to get a dirt dauber nest out of the horn. I am super happy with the end result, and just got it working about an hour ago. I just listened to a couple of Carter Family records, and the listening experience is everything I thought it would be. I love it!

Thanks again to everybody for the help! This is a great site.

Your Victrola looks very nice. I've always like the VIII probably because it was a small seller compared to the IX. Good job! Jerry

I picked up a Victor VV-VIII last month also. The case is so nice, and is the loudest playing machine I have.

Congratulations! Few things are as gratifying as fixing something that's broken with one's own hands.

Mine is the only victrola that I have ever heard in person, so I have nothing to compare to. But I tell you what... it is LOUD. I was very surprised when I played it for the first time.
