Amberola 1A mystery - door stop hardware

My 1A came to me without the bar and hardware that restricts the cabinet door from opening too far. Thanks to George P.'s advice, I found a complete set that was exactly what I needed at a ridiculously low price. :) :) Parts shown here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Edison-C250-C19 ... true&rt=nc

The mystery came when I went to install the parts today. The cabinet has a recessed area for the escutcheon and the center has been drilled out to leave room for the limit bar. However, there are no screw holes in the recessed area, nor are there any screw holes on the door for the bar support. The cabinet is the late style 1A/1B cabinet with the last grill.

Any theories? Suggested remedies?

Also, there is an unplated piece that I assume goes behind the escutcheon somewhere, but I don't know exactly how. Could someone explain where this is supposed to go and how to orient it correctly?

Thanks!
Kevin

See if these help. This is my C250.

Interesting, Dave. Your escutcheon has a protrusion that mine does not. Also, in order to have the "hook" on the unplated part inside the hole, I would have to mount it on the right, not on the left as yours is.

Thanks for the pics. I will PM you shortly as well.

I'm still interested in theories about why this has an escutcheon recess but no screw holes...

Cheers,
Kevin

I checked my A250 which has the same case design as your Amberola and the setup is exactly the same.

Kevin,
Here is a picture of the door from my A250 which should be similar to the door on your Amberola. My door is 16 ¾" wide. The holes where the rod attaches to the door are 10 ⅜" and 11 ⅛" from the left side of the door. They are 9/16" from the bottom. I just happen to be refinishing the cabinet on my A250 and had the door handy for pictures. The door on my C250 is only 14 ¼" wide and the holes are not in the same position, so door width has some bearing on where the bar attaches.

Thanks for the measurements, Dave. Now I have to decide whether to leave it as is or drill...

I'm leaning towards leaving it alone.

From what you are describing, one can only conclude your machine left the factory that way. I'd vote for leaving it alone. :monkey:

Posting some pictures could be helpful.

On my B1 the door rod uses 4 screws where the plate fastens to the cabinet just under the bottom drawer. Otherwise it looks like the one pictured earlier from the 250. I also agree with others that if it left the factory with the rod missing, I would not put one on.
