Edison "O" Reproducer

I have a well-working "O" reproducer that bears no markings other than an "O" on the underside. Were reproductions of these made in the past? Or could this be the result of extensive restoration of the reproducer?
Thanks in advance for your informed input,
Raphael

Raphael,
This is definitely a home machinist made reproducer top. Most likely done to replace an original put metal piece that disintegrated. Ron Sitko is making superb reproductions of the "O" top, complete with the correct lettering. I believe he is selling them for $90.

If it's working well, I wouldn't fiddle with it. "Restoring" it would only be destroying its history, unique character and apparent fine workmanship.
