Hello, I finally found a Cygnet 10 panel horn in my area but it needs a re-painting. The horn has been plastic beaded ( a process much gentler than sand-blasting ) inside and out to remove the little paint that did remain along with the rust that was prevalent though out. The elbow was done in the same manner ( outside only ) for the same reason. The rust did not permeate through either item and it really looks great in it's nude condition.
In reading and learning from this Forum, I know there are many knowledgeable people who have re-painted horns and I would like to hear how you would proceed from the point I am to bring this Cygnet to presentable shape. Thank you in advance, Gerard

Since it will always be a repainted horn why not woodgrain the horn? It really makes it something special. My opinion. Jerry Blais

+3 on Jerry's idea. Since the horn will no longer retain it's original finish, you may as well go all the way and send it out for graining. In the long run, it will also enhance the machine's over all value & desirably.

Amazingly, I was hoping I would receive a reply from you both after viewing in the past the work you have done and the information you have both provided. I thank you. The advice you both offered concerning the horns condition is without a doubt correct and valuable to me. The difficulty I have is I do not have the present resources to send it out to have it done or to justify it being so. I am paying for my sons and daughters college educations and according to my accountant food, clothes and shelter for my wife and I may only be a memory from the past for us both Ha,ha!! But it is worth it.
Since this horn is for my personal enjoyment and not for future re-sale, what would be the correct manner to re-finish the horn? In other words, what would be the proper primer and more importantly the correct paint to be used. Should it be sprayed or should it be hand brushed? My wife who is an art instructor could paint the gold trim needed. Any and all help would be appreciated. Gerard

All you need to do is go to our "search" and you will find many threads on horn restorations. Most (if not all) are in our "Tips & Tricks" section of our forum.
