Hello Everyone,

I am still looking for a few decent reproducers to use to properly play brown wax.

Scouting around for Edison model B, and also
automatic reproducers. What the heck, it
might be fun to have and use both kinds.

Was thinking it might be good if anyone has
these, for them to dig them out and bring to
Union.

Also always scouting around for any and all
recorders and recorder parts. Same idea
there, if you have any of these, please bring
to Union.

Please let me know what you might scrounge
up this week, before the show.

Thanks George! You know, I did think of that as I posted this
Union wishlist "want" add.

I've been in contact with this gentleman, and did ask him if he'd
be interested in selling one of those repro tube-plates and the repro
threaded ring that holds the tube plate in.

I have a cobbled-together automatic recorder which was rebuilt using
an old standard speaker body. The rebuilder did not have the proper tube plate
nor the proper threaded ring, so he ended up cobbling some Dictaphone parts
to do it.

It works that way...but it aint right. Not by a long shot.
Price was right though, and it will look a lot better when I get
these parts from the seller of the repro automatics.

Chuck, are you looking for something special in the reproducers? I have several of both, but don't understand why you weren't able to find something at the union dhow or the people who were bringing some Gordon you to look at. Or was it just a price issue?

Several issues actually. Price is usually
one of the issues.

I will do my best here to summarize the issues:

An old original Automatic reproducer has
a wonderfully light weight, and a ball stylus.
Those are very good things to have, to play
brown wax.

Old original automatics do not have the notch
to fit my later carriage arm though, and I
know enough NOT to notch an original.

The downside of the old automatics though, is
that they have very little side-to-side
adjustment freedom to them. They are "automatic" but just barely. Just one
step removed from the old rigid "standard speaker"...

As far as model B reproducers, I have seen
two types, one kind has no extra weight
screwed on, and the other type has the weight
thickness doubled by a screw-on plate.

But, even with that extra plate removed, that
weight still looks mighty heavy, to me.

Issues, issues, issues, you said it.

I lucked out real well with the automatic
recorder though. I found one and paid $100
for it, it was rebuilt into a recorder, using
an old standard speaker body, and it even
came "pre-butchered" in that someone at some
time had filed a big old flat across the top
of it, so it could be used as a standard speaker in a later carriage that has the pin
for the notch. So, as a collector's item,
it does not have much value, but for me, it
works just fine.

So, that is the situation here, at this point.
Thinking of buying one of the new repro
automatic reproducers for $200 and notching it.
