Those pointers are part of an interesting auto-stop mechanism that was offered by the Otto Heineman Phonograph Supply Co. in about 1918. The motor was fitted with an extended turntable spindle. The pointer would be placed over the spindle on top of the record, with the index of the pointer set to the last groove. The brake was operated by a solenoid powered by a dry cell. When the pointer touched the tip of the reproducer needle the circuit would be made and the solenoid would actuate, operating the brake.

I thought we already discussed the answer to this on Facebook?!

Anyway, UV is correct, I have the Newby and Evans machine which uses this circuit.

Interesting (and no offense), but somebody posted the exact same photos and questions in one of the FB groups the other night.

No problem Sean! I have only been on here a few times. I JUST took the pictures with my phone and went through the ordeal of uploading and posting them all within minutes.
So I doubt the exact photos have been seen before!
I've never been on Facebook, I would love to see these other pictures! Most odd!
I do appreciate the info!!

Thanks for doing that picture.
I guess they are not all that rare then? LOL
I found mine in a box of records just this past Sunday while in West Virginia.
If anyone has a use for them and is interested let me know,I have no use for them myself.
