What I don't see is a serial number boss.

I see a machine in search of its end gate. It looks as if the casting was ground off. Was this some kind of a do-it-yourself model D?

Strange ID plate...

I still consider myself a neophyte around Edison cylinder machines ( in spite of owning three Homes and one Standard )...


But here are my observations:

> Late "A" case ( black-letter Banner decal, end lid-latches )

> Upgrade with early 2/4 minute gearing with "shift lever" ( I have a Home D with no lever, just a raised inner-flange on the pulley drum)

> Still has the shaving attachment on the carrier arm

> bed-plate has the early-style "tufts" decoration in the corners

> can't see enough of the upper casting to check-out striping / ghosts of striping...

> strange-looking "shims" under corners of upper casting, where it meets the bed-plate.


Not sure what to make of all this, but it would seem to be a Late Banner A that was possibly first upgrade to 2/4 minute, then upgraded again to the "D" -style w/o end-gate ?

On the way home from Union I stopped at a bicycle collectors home to pick up a pre-purchased craigslist item. I noticed a couple of neglected Edisons and offered to repair them in trade for bicycle stuff. When I got back to Oregon and lifted the lid on the Home (serial #H125349) the first thing I noticed was the missing end gate. The next thing I noticed was a lack of a pivot point for the swing arm. (Martinola gets an A+) After closer inspection that portion of the top works was cut off, grounded off, and painted. It appears to have been modified long ago based on the grease and grime all over the mechanism. I cleaned it a bit, made a belt, and oiled the critical spots and it works fine. Has anyone else seen such a conversion? It's a first for me. Jerry
