VV-350 only 880 made?

I have read on the that there was only 880 VV-350's made and all were made in 1924. Serial numbers are supposed to range from 501 thru 1381. Then I saw this auction on Ebay with a VV-350 listed and a clear picture of the data plate with a serial number 1798. Any ideas? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPER-RARE-Vict ... 48693d67bd The machine looks correct but the data plate doesn't look right?

Oops, I replied to the other thread!

I can't see any problem with the data plate. What looks wrong or off to you?

Basically, if this machine has a serial number as high as this one, I'd say it disproves the "only 880" theory and jacks it up to close to 1300. Perhaps the 880 figure comes from reported serial numbers off data plates and this one is just a higher number than anyone has seen until now.

Thoughts?

Sean

Sean, I just replied to the other post as well. I noticed that the style and font of the serial number and model is different on this machine and on mine they are the same. I don't know if that is a common thing? Thoughts? It would be interesting to know if the Victor Victrola site data base has information on any VV-350's with serial numbers above the 1381 that was considered the highest serial number. Jan
