How do I remove the tonearm from a rear mount Victor M?

I am servicing Victor M for the Johnson Victrola Museum that they want to use for demonstration purposes. I have a hard time figuring out how to remove the tonearm from the back bracket. On my Victor II it's as simple as pushing the pin down, but that does not work the same on the Victor M. It seems that there is a rod going all the way through the tonearm and fixed to a cross bar on the top of the back bracket. I assume that there is a way to remove that rod, but I do not want to force anything. Can anyone help?

You need to use a very thin blade or edge between where the two rods meet. If you have never done this and the machine is not yours.....perhaps it would be better to just leave it. The last thing you would want to do is mar something that's not yours. Besides, why do you need to remove the arm anyway...??. You should be able to work around it.

Well, the tonearm is not moving freely, so I intended to clean, polish and lubricate the parts involved. I thought it would be easy like with later Victors. I am asking because I definitely don't want to damage anything that is not mine. I'll try to work it with penetrating oil, but in case that does not work I may still have to go back to removing it.

Loosen the set screw on the bottom of the tonearm, in the first pic. That should allow you to remove the rod that goes through the tonearm...

I wonder if the pin in the support bracket isn't simply frozen? It may be gummed up from old oil or rust.

This tone arm will come apart just like your Victor II does or any other rear mount Victor. The pin that's in the support bracket gets pushed down and then the tone arm and it's swivel pin will come out. If the support arm pin does not push down it's frozen up as you thought. This pin is spring loaded and will need some penetrating oil. Just don't force anything and you'll be fine, good luck.

Thanks everyone for your advice. It was a combination of all of them. Both the push pin and the tonearm rod were rusted in. After some penetrating oil they got moving again, but still not smooth. But now it came apart easily. All good now.
