Hi guys, hope you can help ! I have just acquired a suitcase type Home. The serial n: is H2089. Can anyone give me a date for it ? On the front of the case is a badge saying it was supplied in the UK by Edisonia with a different number 10184. Is it normal for these numbers to be different or has it been re cased ?

I also need a complete set of the suitcase type clips - does anyone remake these your side of the pond ?

From Frow, it looks like the "suitcase" style Home was made from 1896 to 1901. I would think that with that number yours should be a fairly early example. George or someone may be able to narrow it down further. I am guessing that the 10184 was the importer's number.

Hi, Yes it does.

Edison Home No.2089 left the factory about December 1897. Right around No.2000 is where production was standardized. I would expect your machine has the Edison trade mark decal on the upper casting, and no rest cast into the front. If your machine differs from this, I'd appreciate knowing.

What is that weird wooden horn pictured in your album?

I bought that at the same place as the Home - it seems to be papier mache like an EMG but I can't see how it would have attached to a gramophone ! the bell is 25 inches across so it is quite big - any suggestions gratefully received !
Back to the Home - what is the knurled screw for on the side of the reproducer carriage ?

Your reproducer is a later upgrade, presumably a Model C. This would originally have had an 'Automatic' reproducer, with an adjusting arm off to the right. The knurled screw was used to align the stylus by engaging that adjusting arm. Also, originally the reproducer was mounted into the carriage with two curved metal pieces at top and bottom. Someone has jury-rigged a bolt to hold yours in place.
