Hi, I have seen pictures of the Columbia Q with the fancy filigree key and the plain key - which is correct or are both right ?

It's my understanding that the plain flat key was used on the earlier version Q with the nickel plated base and the filigree key was used on the "2nd" version with the painted base. This somewhat fits into the scheme of things, as the flat key was also used on the Eagle (model B), which initially preceded the Q.

According to Hazelcorn, the first style Q was introduced in 1899 with a flat key and the filigree key was used on the second style Q that was introduced in 1904.
