Edison Business Phonograph c1909 - Help needed !

Hi
I have a spring driven Business phonograph from about 1909 but need some help with it. I cannot work out how the carriage arm is driven. It appears that instead of a halfnut there is a wheel with groves around it - can someone take a photo of how it drives the carriage ? Any information and especially close up photos of the top works would be very useful !!
Many thanks
Andrew

"can someone take a photo of how it drives the carriage ?"

I could take one for you, but I don't know where you live...

It might be best if YOU take some pics and post them, so we can see what you are talking about...

This seems to be what should move the carriage along but it does not seem to engage with the bar below it. Also, at the end of the shaft it is on is a gear wheel which does not connect to anything ?
Thanks
Andrew

Andrew,
That little dished wheel with the threading is the drive wheel, which should get power from the feedscrew... But it appears to me that you are missing some important components - for example: that gear on the end of the shaft should connect to a gear train of some sort, but it is obviously missing. From the pics it looks like someone has cut off part of the casting for whatever reason, although that may not be the case, since I am only going by the pics... Does it look to you like something has been cut off?

The ID Tag on your machine identifies it as a Model-D Business Machine. Here are a few pictures of my Model-D. It looks to me like someone adapted an arm from a later model dictating machine to the machine. I included a closeup of the area that you asked about. If I can be of any additional help please let me know.
