A Nice Diamond Disc

I have slowly been picking up some electrically recorded Diamond Discs. One arrived today, #52142, piano solos by May A. Meyer. Played on my C-19, the volume, clarity, and range of the recording is just astonishing. I could have been listening to something recorded 20 or 30 years later.

I have committed sacrilege I have added the ability to play DD on my modern TT system to save wear and tear on the stylus on my A150. Wow I am blown away by whats' in those grooves! The very thing that makes them difficult to play on a modern TT is what makes them sound spectacular on a modern system. I don't have any electrically recorded DD as of yet at least I don't think so any way. I can only imagine what one would sound like on my system. Acoustic DD truly blow acoustic 78's away and give electric recorded ones a run for their money with range and sound. I didn't know why I didn't do this earlier. I will try to get some if I can find any

I will try to do that in the next few days Tom, although I expect that the sound recording gizmo on my video camera may not do it justice.

Miss Meyer visited the Edison studio over and OVER again, to get these right - so they ought to be good! Actually, I have this and her original acoustic sides, and they're both lovely. "Rustle of Spring" = thoughts of The Music Man (one Grecian Urn .... )

They do sound good on a C2. I had a nicely rebuilt one several years back. However the sound quality is MUCH better on my "modern" equipment, 1960s Fisher tube amp, mid 70s graphic equalizer and turntable with vertical switch and properly sized stylus.

That's a really nice setup and a great record! I also prefer electric playback of electric DD's. These late ones are really quiet, even unfiltered.
