Hi,
Can somebody let me know what horn the Columbia Graphophone "B" and "Q" should have ? I have seen some with the black cone type horn , others with 10 ¾ inch nickel horns and others with the same size in brass - I am confused !
Thanks
Andrew

According to the Hazelcorn book, the original Type B took a jappaned tin horn. The horn on the later BXP was nickeled. The first style Q also had a japanned tin horn. The more expensive QQ's horn was nickeled. The horn finish on the second style Q isn't stated, but also presumably japanned, with an upmarket QA version mentioned as having a nickeled horn. All were 10" apparently.

I expect various after-market horns also show up.

Clay pretty much nailed it. The later QA used the small aluminum horn associated with Graphophones, and the price was increased from $10 (with the nickeled horn) to $10.70 (with aluminum horn).

Photographs of the basic models of the Eagle and Q with their horns can be found on the Antique Phonograph Society website in the article titled, Encountering Antique Phonographs. You can see that article here:

The September 2014 issue of The Antique Phonograph (due out within a few days) has a comprehensive article on the Q including photographs of the various outfits in which it was offered. As members of the Antique Phonograph Society saw in the June issue, the last Eagles were offered by Sears with morning glory horns! :)

Andrew,
I bought a couple of 10" black japanned horns from the US last year and was very pleased with them.
The trader is still on Ebay, and I have contacted him to see if he has them in stock, and how much to the UK.
Will let you know his reply.
Regards,
Alistair.

Andrew, that's easy....you can try running a "wanted" ad in our Yankee Trader. There is bound to be a member willing to let one go at the right price. However, shipping to the UK may be a problem. Also, you could try Howard or Guido.
