This Jewel 78rpm/Pathé adapter has been sitting broken for decades. I decided to repair it back to good health. It needed A LOT:

-needle bar and needle chuck were both loose on pivot block, i soldered them back on with silver solder

-replaced hardened rubber gaskets, and centered diaphragm

-added new thumbscrew

-rear tube expanded slightly, so it wouldn't fit into the Edison DD horn. I turned the metal back a few thousandths, and now it fits perfectly.

-the limit "keel" or "shark fin" on the pivot tube was broken off. This always happens, from rough handling. Because pot metal is porous, it is the perfect candidate for the use of an expanding urethane type glue, like Gorilla Glue. I drilled about 10 holes total with a 3/32 drill bit on the main tube, and the shark fin, wet them (VERY IMPORTANT), then clamped them together. Drilling the additional holes adds valuable surface area for the glue to grip. Its on pretty good, and can withstand a gentle flick from a finger. It is functional, and I have no need to put it to any further strength tests.

-a little touch up with gold metallic Rub N Buff on the bezel, just to make it look more uniform.

To play Pathé discs, simply rotate the reproducer body and tube (GENTLY, as to not break the shark fin!!!) and insert a Pathé sapphire shank into the special needle chuck.

These large fiber diaphragms sound FABULOUS on electrically recorded 78rpm discs, especially Viva Tonal and Victrola electrics. And for Pathé discs, they sound just right.
