I just got this Concert and have to have it shipped from the West Coast. How should I tell the guy to prepare it for shipping? I am not real familiar with these. It also has a chip out of the big belt pulley. You can't see it in the picture, but where would I find one?

That's a beautiful machine, I would love to have one of those concert type machines. They have some reproduction cylinders that you can get for them from Vulcan in the U.K., they are about $200.00 each. I am curious what the one you have sells for?

You may want to see if a member like Jerry (West Coast) can bring it out for you. Or any member that many be traveling. Without a doubt the "safest" way.
Try running an ad in the YT if you like that idea.

If not, I always ship machines with the motor removed from the case. That's a disc machine. In your case....I would ask the shipper/seller to remove the upper works and wrap and then the motor and deck and wrap. If possible....I would have the reproducer Carriage remove as well and wrapped.

You should be able to pack all three parts into a double box having them wrapped in bubble wrap and then styro peanuts to fill the voids in the box.

The case, I would also have wrapped in bubble wrap and again, packed into a double box with styro peanuts.

This should minimize any risk of damage. However, there is always a risk regardless how careful you are.
I find shipping the quickest way possible another way to minimize risk.

This one was on auction. The seller and I ended up doing some trading on coins I had on auction and at home. I ended up with about 2100.00 in it. It comes with 6 of the Vulcan cylinders, but it has the wrong reproducer in it. It has a D and should have an automatic. I am just worried about getting it in one piece.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking also. All the metal in one box and the case and cylinders In another.

I would put the cylinders in their own separate box, individually wrapped in bubble wrap and stuff the insides with something like rags to keep them stable. Ideally, the cylinders would be boxed individually and then placed in a larger box with plenty of room around the outside in case the box gets whacked. The case should be in its own box wrapped very well and packed with peanuts and the reproducer should be packed inside the case for protection. The main thing to insist on is NO UPS... they do structural tests on your boxes with hi-lo's...

Don't pack anything in the box with the cylinders, except cylinders. Wax cylinders are so brittle that anything bumping them could shatter them...

Regarding the belt pulley, if you can find an original replacement, that would be great. But, that might prove to be a daunting task. If not, a good machinist like Bill Beam, could make one.

Good buy, especially with an original Model D reproducer sand the cylinders. Good luck Ronnie.

I could not agree more!

I have had one Edison Standard and one Edison Home, heavily damaged in shipping. The Home received the worst damage-the oak case was splintered, the pulley shaft bent, the pulley shattered, and the carriage arm broken in two. I will never have a machine shipped to me with the motor attached to the upper deck again.
