Maintenance Question

Hi - I have a VV XVI H model - just recently it has started to make a chirping noise after the turntable starts. It will stop if I adjust the speed up or down. The motor was overhauled a while back. I'm wondering if I need to oil the governor? Has anyone else had this issue?

Just a guess, but perhaps the turntable is rubbing up against the semi-automatic brake lever?

I tried adjusting the brake and the sound did not stop. I removed the turntable and that did not help. Given the fact that that when I adjust the speed the sound stops, I'm guessing it is related to the governor. Any other ideas?

Try oiling the leather pads that come into contact with the governor flywheel.

Will do. This will be my first attempt at oiling the machine. I read that sewing machine oil is the best to use. Is that a good choice?

Yes, sewing machine oil would be a good choice. I've recently switched from sewing machine oil to Hoppes No. 9 synthetic gun oil, and have had great results with it.
