My father recently picked up this small project at a nearby auction without first letting me know... I just have too many to deal with at the moment. It's the electric version of the orthophonic model VE-8-12, circa 1927-28. The mahogany cabinet is in excellent condition, the grill has no issues and retains its original cloth. All the bronzed hardware is in great shape, the turntable retains its original fabric. The reproducer has not been rebuilt, but shows no visible cracks or issues at all. All this needs, aside from some basic cleaning and tuning, is a new support bracket for the tonearm and a power cord, although I may have an extra in one of my parts boxes. The only other issue is for some reason, the thin paneled backing for the cabinet is missing... although you'd never know looking at it from the front. I'd just like to get our money back out of this, so I'd need $400 with the reproducer (which I can use on something else) or $350 without it.
This is located in southern NJ just 10 minutes from center city Philadelphia. I may be able to bring it to the October Wayne NJ phonograph show, or it can be picked up whenever. Send me a message or email at brianu73 at hotmail if you're interested.
Thanks.

Hello,
What is wrong with the support arm? Can it be repaired?

Enlargement shows that, for some reason, the retaining screw in the back bracket is not inserted into the "dimple" in the taper tube. Would have to examine it to assess the situation.

Re: FOR SALE - Victor Victrola VE-8-12 (in NJ) $350
sorry for the delay in responding. yes, the tonearm is not presently secured in place within the support bracket (the pin and screw are there, it's just not set up properly as a whole). I'll try to take and post a close up photo of that bracket - the overhanging support looks to me like a reproduction, not mass produced, but just made by someone for this machine... it seems to be functional, it's just a bit crude, which is why I noted that it should be replaced and that this is a project machine (but by no means an extensive one). I'm certain I could get the money back out of this by parting it out, although I'd rather not do that. my plan was to first offer it whole here, then on craigslist and ebay, and then to just list the parts on ebay. one way or another, it has to go.

here is a shot of the bracket. it definitely seems like someone reproduced this on his/her own, so it should be replaced.

Hello,
That back bracket is an easy fix. JAS Antique Phonographs offers a beautiful reproduction bracket with pivot pin for $75.00.

I bought mine from JAS and it looks and works beautifully. Also, Ron Sitko sells them as well (a little cheaper, I think).
A VV 8-12 is currently the only orthophonic machine I have. I love the styling of the cabinet and the sound is quite good. Not as good as the credenza I sold last year, but quite good. Much fuller sound than the consolette I used to have, but not as loud. I hope this machine goes to a good home.
