My First BUSH & LANE Duo-Vox

Post by CDBPDX »

Just brought home my very first complete and functional Bush & Lane Duo-Vox phonograph with 2 reproducers. Cleaned, lubed, and tuned up the machine and I am amazed at the good sound reproduction. You can watch and listen on YouTube here:

Very happy!

The Duo-Vox Edison reproducers are nice! I have an identical one, branded "Claravox" and when used on a wooden-horn Victor I think it out-performs any Edison machine I own!

VERY NICE!!! I had one of these phonographs years ago. It is one of the one's I wish I still had. It sounded great and the motor ran very quiet.

Were these reproducers made by Claravox? Also, did they use Edison diaphragms?

Here is a picture of the motor in this phonograph. Looks like a Heineman.

That is definitely a Heineman motor. I am wondering if the Edison stylus on the Duo-Vox can be changed? If it goes bad would a diamond need to be mounted into the bar like a Edison?

How did you get a Claravox on a Victor? I've never heard of that before. Sounds interesting(pardon the pun).

Here are a couple 'before' pics of the tone arm. I wondered why the swing arms were so stiff.

Very nice, I am so envious

When I was very young and had no money to speak of, I saw an upright cabinet model Bush and Lane at an antiques mall. It was shabby, non-functioning and vastly overpriced, but I was greatly intrigued by the double reproducer. I have never seen another since, except in pictures on the Internet. Did Victor sue them over the tapered tone arm, or had the patents expired by then?
