Question... I've heard people refer to walnut elevens but isn't that really a different stain or color of mahogany? Jerry

Walnut is not listed as a finish in Look for the Dog, but the picture above of the inside of the lid looks a lot like American walnut. Could be walnut I suppose. Generally though, walnut was not a wood choice that was used on the less expensive models.
<shrug> Who knows, there's certainly a chance for one offs out there.

I have an XI that sure looks to be walnut to me, much like the insides of the one we are now considering. I posted pix of mine about a year ago on this forum when I found it, and the consensus then was that these did not come in walnut. But now their appears to be two of them.

I've owned one myself but suspected it was a brown mahogany finish. Jerry

Well, if anyone wants to go look at it, it is in Gresham, OR and they're only asking $175. You can find it on Craigslist. It is not mine and I know nothing about it except that it might not be walnut.

I think it is walnut - by the 20's it was more popular that mahogany.

looking at the top pictures, this is walnut. Mahogany, even brown mahogany, has a very straight grain. Plain American walnut has a swirly grain. It's a pity these people painted the outside brown.

I have an American Walnut VV XI and the veneers are quite nice. I have also seen the VV 90 in American Walnut too. My XI has a higher serial number an carries a no. 2 reproducer.
I wonder if other walnut XI's have high serial numbers.
