Most of the asking prices are kind of ridiculous. $50 for the ID plate? $150 for the needle holder? $150 for a common 2-spring motor? Good luck to him and whoever is desperate enough to consider these prices...

The seller has almost $100 in bids already. Undoubtedly paid less than that for the machine He/she is not getting into phonograph heaven.

These sellers kind of get my nerve. Someone interested in doing a restoration on it would want the whole thing but more than likely won't get it all buying each part individually. They are just dissecting the whole thing to squeeze every little penny out of it. I wonder what they do with what they have left.

As of now, it seems only one item has sold, one item has a bid on it, a few are still open with no bids, and all the rest have mysteriously ended without a sale. Maybe the seller had second thoughts or decided to try to put the phonograph back together, even though someone bought the lid hinge. Karma! It's still a crying shame to see such a grand phonograph as a VV 4-7 end this way.

If there is anyone near Central Wisconsin interested in one of these, I would sell mine for $50. It needs restoration but is in better shape than this one.

The seller has returned many of the VV 4-7 components for eBay sale. What I find distressing is that now he has removed the orthophonic horn assembly from the cabinet and the cabinet from the leg assembly, selling each of the three for a $50.00 start bid. Last time I checked, someone had placed a bid on the leg assembly. Pardon me while I kneel before the porcelain throne in my bathroom and make a deposit.

The seller is free to do with his items as he wishes. It might be a shame to see a machine being parted out, but at least it's not an L-door XVI being gutted for a Victor VI project or something of that nature... Considering the value of a 4-7 in nice original condition, and the cost of restoration that would be required to get this particular example up to snuff, the economics of parting out may outweigh the value of keeping it whole.

Garret, you are absolutely correct in your statement about a seller being free do with his items as he wishes, as well as try to get as much money as possible. In this case, the component parts, specifically the cabinetry and hardware, were in rather nice condition and I presume any additional costs to improve the appearance and mechanics would be minimal. I would guess the seller could get maybe between $400 and $600 for a complete VV 4-7 in very good condition. By parting-out every conceivable component of this phonograph, he is probably hoping to get double those amounts. The problem for the seller continues to be...the parts he has for sale are not drawing very many bids (this is the second bidding cycle for nearly all of these parts). Still, as an admirer of fine cabinetry and superior tonal reproduction, it is painful for me to witness the dismemberment of a once-elegant VV 4-7 phonograph.

I am surprised that this seller doesn't take the motor apart and sell each part individually.
