Reckon this one's gone past the restoration stage!

I estimate that to get the gilt fittings replated in matt gold would be around £300-£400, and I doubt the leather on the case could ever be brought back to anything near the orignal. You could, of course, spray the fittings with gold paint, which is, after all, what the original gilding on these machines looked like! ;)

I have yet to see anything but basic black 101's offered up here in the states. I acquired one just today, the wood case is badly water damaged, and all it's covering has been removed. Despite this it still plays well once I swapped on one of my rebuilt No4 soundboxes. Not sure what to do with it yet, these are rare here in any condition, or at least they are when I am looking for them, but the price was right, and many of it's parts could be used as spares for my model 112.

As well as the inadequate description and the poor condition, the seller's refusal to post the machine probably accounted for the low price achieved. Posting a portable is neither difficult nor expensive, yet many sellers restrict their potential market by insisting on collection only.
