I swore I wasn't going to buy any more machines and stop with the 3 I have...but...found a nice VV-VI locally that somehow ended up at my house this afternoon. The pin from the tonearm bracket was missing and the whole tonearm lifted out. I removed the bracket to clean things up, and thought that the 'collar' underneath looked broken. I then noticed that the tonearm and another piece that looks to fit inside it have two holes for a pin or screw. Now I'm thinking that the 'break' in the 'collar' somehow serves as a stop to whatever is supposed to go in the hole at the base of the tonearm. Is this correct?

There should be a hole in tone arm for a tiny set screw to sit inside that notch which prevents the tone arm from swinging into the bracket. That missing set screw explains why many of those tone arms have dents on either side.
