Hello,
Does anyone know for sure what an Amberola A-250 actually weights? I would love to have one but am thinking that the weight might just make it too tough to handle. Can the drawers be removed for easier hauling?
thanks
Pete

The motor comes out, the drawers can be slid out, the cabinet is awkward, but not overly heavy. I'd guess 50 pounds. If you use a 2 wheel dolly, its a piece of cake..

Pete, Are you thinking of crating and shipping? You can take a lot of things out like the drawers and mechanism but then you have to pack them also. The Amberolas shipped to me last winter were a 1-A and 1-B and each was shipped on a pallet. One was laying on a pallet covered with only one packing blanket and cardboard. I arrived with the mechanism ajar and the reproducer still in place. There was some damage but I expected much more. The other machine was carefully crated on a pallet. The machine was standing vertical with padding, layers of cardboard and packing peanuts. Next were slabs of insulation, more packing peanuts, and an exterior protective box made out of particle board. The box completely enclosed the machine and was strapped to the pallet. I believe crating and shipping was near $1500 for a 2000 mile trip. I'd guess an A-250 would weigh around 170 pounds.

I brought an A-250 into my garage, up the elevator, and into my condo by myself using a dolly with not all that much trouble. I removed the crank and mechanism and carried those separately for protection of the mechanism, and of course that makes the cabinet significantly lighter. And of course the cabinet should be wrapped to prevent damage. I used some old quilts.

I am considering a Edison Laboratory model Disc machine (Edison C-250 or C-19), What does one of these machines weigh?

I'd have to agree with Jerry on the A-250 weight (~170 lbs.) the C-250/C-19's will be very similar.
