I'm looking to buy this Graphophone but feel unsure about the horn. Does anyone here know if this is a Frankograph or could it be the real thing. It looks nice and also I wonder about the reproducer which looks newer than the rest of the machine. What do you say...

This "Hunting Horn" style was often used on Pathé and other continental machines, though I think this example is modern- the proportions look a bit odd & period examples are in spun aluminum.

Never mind what I say, the "reproducer" clearly says "RECORDER" - it is not for playing cylinders!

I'm not sure if it's new, or overly cleaned. Can you get new recorders in this style? I know you can buy new Edison recorders.

French 'cor de chasse' horns were made in aluminum, brass, and nickeled brass. That one is most likely original, offhand I haven't seen any repros. But it appears to have had more than a few dents knocked out.

The Eagle was popular in Europe, and was also heavily copied by many European producers. It's possible that was sold in Europe in that configuration but there's no way to know. (I would expect a European-sold B to have a dealer's decal or plate.) It could just be a mix-up of available parts. The angle of the horn is a bit off, which implies to me that it may well have been made for a different machine where the bell would sit more level.

Er... you have a point there (I'll never make detective) then the next question is: how hard is it to find a reproducer for this phonograph?

And thankyou Tinfoil for your input, yes the horn looks to be original (although maybe not to this phonograph). I'll get back here with more info if I decide to finally buy the machine.

Those 'Eagle' reproducers aren't hard to find. There have been replicas made as well.
