Edison Amberola V - What's Wrong With This Picture?

Just putting my Amberola V motor back together and found something that doesn't look right. What is supposed to be where the big nut is? Is anything supposed to be there? Anybody got a picture of the correct assembly?
Thanks!

Looks to me like the big nut was used as a spacer in the governor assembly. I'm guessing with the nut it ran at a correct speed. You should be able to accomplish the same thing by adjusting the arm. Follow the arm to the set screw and make your adjustment there. Jerry

Thanks, Jerry. I've already had this apart, didn't know for sure if the nut or some other spacer device was supposed to be there. You don't think there a spacer is necessary, that would make sense. Just adjust the adjusting arm. Sure would look better. I haven't found a picture of a V that shows how it should be.

Looks like you could loosen the set screw, and take the nut off, and adjust the governor? Then tighten the set screw back down?

I think someone maybe had a hard time budging the adjustment screw on the arm...
Does the screw move easily?
Is the screw head mangled in anyway?
The spacer would be another way to allow for adjustment.

I took this assembly apart once already. It was fairly frozen, but the parts are in good condition, just needed cleaning and lube. Now it is loose and will be easy to disassemble again. I'll try removing the nut. 'Twould be neat if there didn't actually have to be a spacer there.

I removed the extraneous nut and readjusted the speed control and it seems to work fine. Guess it wasn't needed after all. Cool!
