This rare machine needs work but is a very worthwhile project, and is already attracting a lot of interest :

This is a machine you seldom see for sale anywhere.
Will be interesting to see what it gets.

What would one in good condition be worth? It has already hit $2555.31 US Dollars, with 5 days to go... which seems like a lot for a restoration project. This appears to be one of those "feeding frenzy" things on eBay, since it has 32 bids and 5 days to go.

Valuation is all about comparison, and since I cannot remember the last time a New Melba came onto the market I have no data to compare this example with.

There have been no further bids since 5 November, but I am sure that the usual last minute rush will take place in the dying seconds of the listing.

I did an internet search and found two of these which sold at Christies in 2004.

The first one sold for $3,944.

The second one sold for $13,321

Quite a disparity in price! It will be interesting to see what this one goes for.

The buyer may then want to find the matching pedestal. Good luck with that....

Howdy all

I remember those examples in Christies.
I thought the first one got around $15,000 ( $AU at the time as I'm in Australia ) and someone thought " gee, that's a lot. I'll put mine in the next auction " and the next one got about $8500.
Its probably still pretty cheap for what it is. It was the top model horn machine in its day.
I have a reproduction catalogue that has this at 23 pounds in c1908.

regards
Stephen

A trip to Dorchester, UK to retrieve it will add some additional expense, since the seller won't ship it.
