Horn Adaptors

I recently bought a wood horn that I thought would fit my Victor Model M. Turns out I got a late model Schoolhouse horn. Needless to say the horn is to large to fit my elbow. I was wondering if any of you more experienced collectors out there would know of an adaptor that would allow me to use the horn on my machine. I`m relatively new to this and have learned an expensive lesson here. Thanks for any help you all can offer.

Sorry to say your horn was made strictly for the later school models. The early school's used a regular "spear tip" wood horn. That would have been just fine for your M.

This is the main reason the smooth school horn sells for far less.
You may want to retain the horn in case you ever find a school minus horn for a good price. Otherwise, selling it and waiting for the right horn to come along might be best.
Sorry for the bad news.

Before you give up and take a big hit to your pocket book, give Don Gfell a call. I bet he has an adaptor that will work. Jerry

Thanks Jerry, but I was referred to him by Wyatt at Wyatts Musical Americana Repair. No dice. I`ve tried making one myself but it does not function that well. Perry

the only way it could work would be to make a new elbow that would fit the back bracket and horn. if you have some skills you could modify a reproduction elbow so you have the though to make smaller end.
I'd cut a slot in it and pry it open until it's large enough for the horn and solder a piece of brass in the gap. then you can file it smooth and get it replated.
