i met mister crumb at one of the dutch record fairs while i was plowing through a big box of 78s and i puled out this victor when he saw it he said, you know i had to search for nearly 50 years till i finally found that record he also said he did a cartoon strip about it

some time later i did the youtube vid because i think the two should realy be together

i must really go to sauve in southern france to look him up one day he's e really nice friendly guy

In the late seventies, just as we were graduating from college, one of my buddies got married in Vacaville CA. The musical entertainment at the reception was a local band, the Cheap Suit Serenaders. We were what might be termed today as proto-hipsters, all working at the college radio station, etc, so this was a calculated choice and we all knew who was in the band.

During one of their breaks I walked over to Robert and said "hi."

Without looking up, he said "leave me alone!"

A warm and cherished memory.

Tino! You're living a charmed life! Not only did you find a copy of the record in a random box at a record fair, but Robert Crumb was right there to witness the event?! Wow! He was my idol when I was a budding graphic artist in the late 'sixties, and I'd still love to meet the guy!

Funny thing, too -- there are a number of copies of this record up on YouTube, but I liked yours best because it included the cartoon, which I hadn't seen before. Nice idea putting the two together on YT.

Peter, what a great story! Judging from Tino's account, maybe he's mellowed out a bit in his old age?! And the Cheap Suit Serenaders were/are pretty terrific -- they even went to the trouble and expense of releasing some of their songs on 78s in the 'seventies, just out of love for the format. And you got to experience them as a wedding band? Incredible!

well if you want to see him he's doing performance's every summer in his home village of sauve in southern france
(out in the open air)
as far as the remark of peter and yours cody no he hasn't mellowed out he just doesn't like to be approached the last thing you should do is say hi or ask for a autograph
remember i din't approach him we just kinda ended up together enjoying the same box of records i let him in to my game not the other way round
and peter the crumb you met was mild he can be pretty fierce in his reactions towards strangers
maybe bringing some records for his collection might break the ice(and i do mean polar!!)once your through its a nice guy bringing a guitar or banjo also helps or dressing up as someone from the late 20s

and cody as far as my charmed life is concerned.. iv'e always been lucky when i was in my early teens i was into astronomy and at a convention i met both jan hendrik oort (of oort cloud fame) and neal armstrong (well you know!)
last month i accidentally met john cleese who was doing his one man show nearby....i met him on the street just like that!!
and two months ago i met charley hummel for the first time face to face after a long time of mail contact

so yes very charmed indeed thanks for putting a name to it cody
